about us
about us - why use greenbox?
The idea behind Greenbox is simple.
- There are about 25,000 inter-county moves in Addison and Chittenden counties per year, and the average move requires about 65 cardboard boxes.
- With 1.3 lbs per box as an average weight, the typical residential move uses approximately 85 lbs of cardboard, which, in the aggregate, amounts to about 2 million pounds, or 1,000 tons, of cardboard per year!
- Cardboard that is not recycled makes up more than 40% of the composition of landfills, and 40% of every box you recycle cannot be reused and ends up in a landfill as paper sludge.
For every ton of cardboard we divert from landfill, we save:
- 17 trees
- 79 gallons of oil
- 7,000 gallons of water
- 42,000 kilowatts of energy
- prevent 60 gallons of air pollution from being released
- and save 3 cubic yards of landfill space.
